Board authorizes clerk to issue certificates of election after contest period

The Osseo School Board approved a resolution directing the district clerk to issue certificates of election to successful candidates after the seven-day contested-election period and to perform ministerial tasks to help newly elected members assume office.
The Osseo School Board voted to authorize issuance of certificates of election and to direct the district clerk to carry out related ministerial duties, including obtaining written acceptance of office and administering oaths. General counsel Amy Moore outlined the legal timing and duties for the clerk.
Moore told the board that "the school district election clerk is required to issue certificates of election to each successful candidate in the general election after the time of contested elections has passed, which would be 7 days after the board's declaration tonight." The board approved the resolution on a motion by Director Tanya Prince, seconded by Director Heather Douglas; the motion passed 6 to 0.
Moore also described clerk tasks intended to assist elected board members to assume office, such as written acceptances and oath forms. The board noted the certificates may not be issued until the statutory contest window closes.
