District expands AVID program and college-exposure trips as part of school-wide readiness plan

District equity staff described AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) as a central component of the district's college-and-career readiness strategy and explained plans to expand AVID beyond elective classrooms to a school-wide model at participating sites.
"AVID... school wide, not just the elective course," the director of educational equity said, describing the district's intention to give broader access to AVID strategies. Presenters also noted student trips to tribal colleges and historically Black colleges and universities as exposure opportunities and described ongoing site-level planning and coaching to support implementation.
Board members asked about the status of AVID at Park Center and other secondary sites; staff said all secondary sites and one elementary site currently have AVID in place and that site leaders will provide participation numbers on request.
