District reports reading gains in early grades; nearly all K'3 teachers completed initial LETRS training

Presenters highlighted early-literacy results and the district's investment in structured literacy during the work session. A pre/post assessment for voluntary pre-K showed the district exceeded its goal, with staff reporting 82% of pre-K students meeting end-of-year benchmarks.
"We made 82% of our, precares were college and or college and career ready," said the presenter when summarizing pre-K growth. Staff also reviewed FastBridge fall screening data showing 67% of kindergarteners and 55% of first graders identified as low risk. On training, the presenter said 99.8% of K'3 teachers completed Volume 1 of LETRS and the district plans to complete Volume 2 before the June 2026 deadline.
The district described an elementary intervention study to identify which interventions are most effective locally; results led to removing persistently ineffective interventions. Staff said Universal screening three times a year and a balanced-assessment approach at the secondary level will be used to monitor progress and align instruction with state assessments.
