At the Nov. 12 work session the Department of Educational Equity and Learning & Achievement presented the district's achievement and integration goals and the strategies intended to close proficiency and graduation gaps.
"I wanna be very clear that the data that we are, gonna look at is not where we wanna be," said Michael Walker, director of educational equity, describing the district's baseline achievement data and the need for targeted interventions. Presenters listed four goals: small annual reductions in racial isolation and integration gaps at identified schools, measurable decreases in proficiency gaps versus the state, incremental increases in the percentage of staff of color and a 4 percentage-point annual increase in American Indian graduation rates through 2026.
The presentation outlined equity-transformation cycles at schools (listen, uncover, reimagine, move), additional staff supports such as Indian Education staffing and language-acquisition courses (Dakota and Ojibwe), and partnership programs including magnet programming and the National Urban Alliance to support high operational practices. Staff said site-level implementation teams and coaching will be used to monitor progress and adjust supports.
