Queer and Trans advisory council urges district to strengthen training, facilities, and PE alternatives

The Queer and Trans Parent & Advisory Council (QTPAC) presented its history, data and three recommendations to the board, emphasizing the need for focused resources and implementation to support queer and trans students. QTPAC chair Maggie McAdam outlined the council's work and asked the district to invest in targeted supports so queer and trans students can "focus on their learning, self discovery, and development, not fighting for basic childhood experiences."
QTPAC members asked for transparent tracking of PRISM training completion for certificated staff (grades 7–12) and requested midyear and end‑of‑year reports on progress toward 100% compliance. "We request that the district provide a midyear and end of year report on progress towards a 100% compliance with California ed code," QTPAC member Sasha Harris Cronin said. Staff and legal counsel said PRISM is operated by an outside provider and that technical and data‑sharing issues have complicated district tracking, but staff committed to building systems to capture completion data.
On facilities, QTPAC asked for an all‑gender safe changing room at every site offering PE and noted that legal signage compliance does not always translate into functional access if restrooms require keys or are not clean. The council also urged expansion of independent study PE or community‑based options to accommodate students who feel unsafe in traditional PE settings. Parents and commissioners discussed interim harm‑reduction steps (allowing comfortable clothing or alternate attire for PE) while facilities solutions and policy changes are evaluated.
