The Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees approved the creation of an Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) unit at Pasadena Memorial High School for the 2027–28 school year.
Board materials and staff explained the district had sought a JROTC program for several years and that the Air Force recently contacted the district after reviewing submitted information about student populations and program readiness. A district staff member said of the Air Force review, "They came over. They visited. They liked what they saw," describing the Air Force's decision to offer a program at Memorial.
Trustee Marshall Kendrick moved the JROTC item and Trustee Kenny Fernandez seconded the motion; the board voted in favor and the motion carried. Trustees said the program will require planning time and a full academic-year lead time before launch in 2027–28. No funding appropriation for the unit was approved at this meeting; the board approved the program authorization and directed staff to continue implementation planning.
