The district announced the resignation of Athletic Director Mr. Toombs during the March 25 meeting and the administration recommended recruiting an interim athletic director to lead the program for the coming year.
Administration said the departure was voluntary and tied to an opportunity for Mr. Toombs to return to a district where he previously worked. The superintendent read portions of Toombs’s resignation letter praising district colleagues and committing to a smooth transition. The superintendent recommended hiring an interim director—possibly a recently retired professional familiar with athletics operations—to keep the program running and produce a program analysis outlining staffing needs and options.
"He has done a tremendous amount for our programs in the last 3 years," the superintendent said, adding that the district runs roughly 80 teams and currently has a small back‑office staff that may not match comparable districts’ athletics staffing. Trustees supported seeking an interim who can also recommend programmatic changes.
