Facilities budget largely flat as district prepares for bond projects and boiler replacements

The Pelham Union Free School District’s facilities budget for 2026–27 is largely flat year‑to‑year, Director of Facilities John Condon told the board during a line‑by‑line review on March 25.
Condon said smaller increases appear in custodial and summer‑help salaries and that some large outlays from prior years — two Ford Maverick trucks and several major equipment purchases — lowered the current year’s pressures. He told trustees the district will begin bond‑funded work on boilers and other major equipment next summer and noted that some heating replacements will not occur until after this heating season.
Condon also highlighted utility and fuel risks. “We do have an area contingency... that area contingency might be a fuel issue,” he said, and reminded the board of historical episodes when fuel prices jumped quickly. Trustees asked for assurance that contingency ceilings were sufficient in the event of a fuel price spike.
Other facilities lines covered included grounds equipment, contract services (exterminators, roof and masonry inspection) and intermunicipal arrangements for field maintenance with the town’s recreation department. Administration said more detailed line‑item information is available in Appendix 3 for trustees who want to “get into the weeds.”
