Staff described the proposed vac trailer as a dual-use utility unit that could replace the current jetter, provide soft-dig suction capability in congested alleys, and reduce reliance on subcontractors. “So I mean there's a lot of uses for it but it's a dual use thing,” staff said, adding the city sometimes pays outside firms for vac services at hourly rates. Staff also said neighboring small cities sometimes need similar equipment in emergencies and McGregor crews have assisted in the past.
