City staff told the council on July 31 that several high-cost capital purchases are in the proposed FY2026–27 budget, funded in part by a $1,000,000 transfer from the sale of land in the McGregor Industrial Park. Staff said the street sweeper is over 20 years old with repeated repairs and that the parks department’s bucket truck, a 1999 model purchased used in 2016, has nearly 375,000–400,000 miles and limited remaining serviceability.
Cassie, speaking for parks, said the new bucket truck’s 55-foot reach would improve safety and efficiency for tree trimming, Main Street banners, holiday lights and tornado-siren maintenance: “The new 1 is 55.” She estimated annual maintenance on the old truck at $5,000–$10,000 versus $3,000–$5,000 for a new unit and suggested rental savings and reduced repairs would generate approximately $105,000 in avoided costs over 10 years (figure described as an estimate). Council members requested formal quotes and warranty information before final approval.
