Council hears warnings on shop expansion costs and discusses possible shared salt-shed with county

The public-works director said the city has already outgrown its maintenance shop and discussed options for expansion, while urging the council to wait until wastewater plans are finalized before committing to major building projects.
"When we get to it and we wanna do it, you could probably double that price," the director said, describing how an expansion now estimated at $250,000 could be substantially more when bid. He added that doubling the shop size now could buy roughly 20 years of capacity compared with smaller additions.
The director also told councilors that Wright County had contacted city staff about potentially relocating and cost-sharing a new salt-shed facility; he asked the county to provide cost estimates and land information before Montrose would consider a partnership.
