Council workshop defers $300,000 SCADA upgrade amid wastewater project uncertainty

City staff said planners removed a proposed $300,000 SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system from the 2025 capital list because the city expects a new wastewater plant that could change needs and timing.
"We were slated to get a new SCADA system next year, which was estimated at 300,000. We took that out, simply because of discussions of the new wastewater," the staff member said. Staff and the public-works director agreed that the wastewater project could make a near-term SCADA purchase redundant or require different specifications.
Staff also said plans for adding square footage to the lower shop and repaving the parking lot (estimated at about $250,000) are being pushed to future years. The public-works director cautioned that future construction costs could be substantially higher: "When we get to it and we wanna do it, you could probably double that price," the director said.
Director and staff noted a separate cybersecurity assessment identified gaps that will require subscription services and an upgrade; the director said he would bring those cybersecurity recommendations to the council meeting on Monday.
