Board debates sequencing of athletics and academic bond projects as costs rise

Construction managers and the superintendent responded that athletics work such as bleachers and press boxes have manufacturing and electrical lead times that require earlier procurement; academic projects need months of user programming, architect design and estimate cycles and thus are expected to be bid later in the schedule. "The last 30 days, the aluminum prices went up over 90% is the feedback we're getting out of industry," the project manager said, explaining why locking in long‑lead items now was recommended.
Administration said that some site work tied only to the baseball field would be set aside for later evaluation and possibly self‑performed if contingencies permit, and that the district will try to preserve the priorities sold to voters while remaining pragmatic about scope adjustments. Board members thanked the team for the explanation but reiterated a desire to keep academic improvements on track and asked for status updates as bids and negotiations proceed.
