District says split MOT role improved operations and produced savings
Summary
Staff told the board that splitting a former maintenance-operations-transportation director role into two positions improved preventative maintenance and reduced overtime; the restructure yielded about $30,000 in savings and the positions cost roughly $150,500 from the general fund plus $80,000 in restricted maintenance funds.

District staff outlined the changes made after the MOT director retired: the district split the responsibilities into a maintenance & operations director and a transportation manager. Staff said the transportation manager is a certified trainer who can maintain driver certifications in-house, and the maintenance director also holds a bus driver license and can serve as backup on routes.
"The restructure resulted in about $30,000 in savings," the staff member said, and staff estimated the general-fund portion to pay for those positions at about $150,500 with roughly $80,000 coming from restricted maintenance funds. Board members said the split addressed prior workload bottlenecks and reduced overtime costs while generating modest savings.
