Board approves Option 4 budget cuts, excludes psychologist intern

The Bass Lake Joint Union Elementary governing board voted unanimously to adopt a package of budget reductions based on Option 4 but removed the psychologist intern from the recommended eliminations.
Chair moved the package and described the combination of supplies and one-time fund reductions, a special-education certificated FTE reduction, a small classified-hours reduction, a psychologist reduction and not backfilling a PE retirement as the proposed bundle. "I move that we do the $10,000... that we move to reduce 1 psychologist at a cost of $140,500, and that we do not backfill the retirement with the PE program at $130,500 for a total of $732,000," the Chair said. A committee member seconded the motion and the board recorded six Ayes on a roll-call vote.
District staff confirmed the board’s direction will be implemented in line with seniority and legal requirements and that staff will notify affected employees as required. The board said it expects the package to help the district meet minimum reserve targets for fiscal certification while staff continues to investigate options to preserve counseling capacity and other student supports.
