Superintendent Benson told the ISD 2071 School Board on March 16 that the district is projecting a $343,000 deficit for next year and laid out several options to reduce spending.
Benson, joined by Business Manager Wesley, also reported steady enrollment—422 students in grades K-5 and 498 in grades 6-12—and said the district will host Ehlers, Inc. at an April work session to discuss possible levy strategies. "The district is projecting a $343,000 deficit for next year," the minutes state, and Benson presented reduction options for board consideration.
Board members asked for options the administration could implement before the budget cycle, and Benson noted some proposals that would require later board direction or public hearings. The board scheduled the April 6 study session in part to review levy scenarios with Ehlers and to align any reductions with the district strategic plan.
