Assistant superintendent outlines Renaissance partnership, rostering work and return of cursive instruction

Assistant Superintendent Ms. Calabrese told the board the district is working on student rostering and partnerships to support student growth, and highlighted a technology partnership and a state instruction requirement.

"We really feel that this is going to take our renaissance platform or as they refer to it as an ecosystem to another level," Ms. Calabrese said, describing a relationship with Renaissance that she said will use data and emerging tools to analyze student information and support growth. She emphasized that "we don't work for them," clarifying the district's operational independence from the vendor.

Ms. Calabrese also thanked summer school staff and families for their commitment and said administrative staff have been rostering students to tailor learning environments. She stated that the New Jersey Department of Education requires cursive instruction for grades 3 through 5, so teachers will be prepared to both teach and have students read cursive as needed for historical documents and literacy proficiency.

The assistant superintendent said most open positions are nearly filled and described follow-up interviews scheduled for the coming week. Board members responded with brief comments but did not propose changes to the described partnerships or rostering practices during the exchange.
