District reports surge in newly enrolled elementary English learners; Camino Grove and Longley Way named California Distinguished Schools

District administrators reported an increase in newly enrolled elementary students and English learners during the March 25 meeting.
Dr. Forsey said the district has 1,009 students who enrolled this year in grades K–5 and remain enrolled as of Monday; 427 of those students (about 42%) are newly identified or transferred-in English Language Learners. "27.75 percent are Level 1 students," Forsey said, noting Level 1 learners are early-stage and require more intensive instruction. The districtwide ELL rate remains roughly 14%, the superintendent said, attributing stability to strong reclassification rates at site levels.
Separately, district communications staff announced that two schools — Camino Grove and Longley Way — were named 2025 California Distinguished Schools. Trustees and staff congratulated the schools and commended the work of teachers and student leadership observed during recent learning walks.
