School board representative touts district's A grade, warns of property-tax amendment's local impacts

Virginia Savietto, who represents District 2 on the Palm Beach County School Board, told the council that "the district earned an A again for the 3rd year in a row" and offered several statistics: 38 schools improved their letter grades and 84% of schools are an A or B. She emphasized that the district is asking voters to renew a 1-mill referendum (a renewal that she said generates roughly $320,000,000 a year) to support teacher pay, career and choice programs, and mental-health and school-security services.
Savietto also raised concern about Amendment 3, a proposed statewide property-tax change that would raise the homestead exemption and, she said, "will impact us" because many local services are funded by property taxes. She recommended the town coordinate communications to educate residents about the potential fiscal effects on local government services if the amendment passes. On attendance, Savietto described chronic-absence challenges following COVID and asked for local help in promoting the Welcome Center and school outreach tools.
