Lake Clarke Shores sets proposed millage at 5.8 mills, schedules Sept. budget hearings

The Town Council of Lake Clarke Shores voted unanimously to adopt a proposed millage rate of 5.8 mills for fiscal year 2026-27 and to schedule the first and second public budget hearings for Sept. 8, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. and Sept. 22, 2026 at 6:30 p.m.
At the meeting, Town Manager Joe Lobello summarized the proposed budget, saying, "It's it's going up 3.7% as proposed. It's, $5,000,000 budget. It's a $183,000 increase." Lobello told the council that most of the increase is tied to the recently negotiated three-year police contract, which he estimated added about $200,000 to the police budget. Council members discussed the timing of the advertised millage and the state law requiring a supermajority if the council exceeds the rollback rate in September.
Council member Bridget Keating moved the millage motion and asked that the hearings be set; the motion passed without opposition. The council's action sets the maximum rate that will be advertised in property owners' TRIM notices in August; the rate may be reduced but not increased at the September hearings. The town manager said staff will return with final numbers in September when insurance and other late figures are available.
