Director John Vento moved to appoint two community volunteers, Yuki Dozier and Sarah Taylor, to the district’s Financial Advisory Committee. "I would move now to to appoint Yuki Dozier and Sarah Taylor to the FAC," he said. The motion was seconded and put to a roll-call vote.
The roll call produced three votes in favor and three opposed, yielding a tie. Several board members said the blind-selection process deserved additional scrutiny and that selecting a former district employee for a fiscal advisory committee could create perceived conflicts. Director Holmes said she would not support appointing both candidates together, citing concern about transparency and the district's recent finance issues. Chair Bowman said the tie and comments indicated the need for further discussion and suggested tabling the item and reviewing process improvements before bringing appointments back to the board.
Board members also noted an upcoming FAC meeting schedule and the administrative timeline for levy and audit briefings; legal counsel indicated the committee calendar can shift if appointments are delayed.
