Montgomery County agrees to buy White's Ferry property; owners donated boats and assets

Montgomery County Executive Mark Elridge announced the county agreed to purchase the White's Ferry landing property in Dickerson for $1,500,000 and that the ferry boats and business assets were donated by Chuck and Stacy Kean at no cost to the county. "Bottom line is the ferry and the landing property on the Maryland side of the river now belong to the people of Montgomery County," Elridge said.
Elridge said the county still must restore landing rights in Loudoun County and work with Virginia and VDOT to secure those rights before the ferry can restart. He described the ferry as an important regional link that, before its 2020 closure, "carried roughly 1000 people and 6 to 800 vehicles every single day," and said restoring the service could have up to a $13,000,000 annual regional economic impact.
