Wabasso School Board selects four superintendent finalists, schedules Jan. 9 interviews

The ISD 640 Wabasso Public School Board selected four finalists for its superintendent search and scheduled interviews for Friday, January 9, 2026. The selection took place during a Jan. 5 work session convened by Board Chair Josh Goche.
The finalists named by motion are Tony Aafedt, Matt Captain, Peyton Mills and Judd Wheatley. "The Board discussed the applications received at length and decided to bring in 4 finalists to interview on Friday, January 9, 2026," the minutes state. The motion to select the four candidates was made by Mary Haberman and seconded by Robyn Hillesheim; the motion carried unanimously.
Board members reviewed applications and planned interview questions and logistics for the Jan. 9 interviews. The board directed Wade McKittrick of BetterU Solutions to contact the selected applicants and set up interview times. After the interviews, the board said it would meet again to decide which candidates, if any, to invite for final interviews.
The work session minutes list Tom Carlson as clerk and show Chair Josh Goche adjourning the meeting at 8:17 a.m. No vote tallies by individual member were recorded in the minutes; motions are recorded as "carried unanimously."
