Power curtailment forces board to postpone handbook and evaluation items

Chair Barry Kinsey called the St. Anthony–New Brighton School Board to order at 6:00 PM after the district moved the work session from the MS/HS Media Center to the Commons because of a scheduled energy curtailment. The district notice indicated a full shutdown of power and electrical systems from 5:00–9:00 PM on Aug. 19 as part of a program with XceI Energy, and the board recorded that the meeting was not available via Zoom.
"[Chair Kinsey] thanked those in attendance for their patience and understanding of the unusual circumstances," the minutes state. After a brief break taken at 8:55 PM, the board voted to postpone two agenda items (the second reading of the School Board Handbook and the minutes/agenda support contract) to the Aug. 28 regular meeting and to postpone the School Board Evaluation Review and Goal Review & Development to the Sept. 30 professional development meeting. The motion to postpone was made by Chair Barry Kinsey and seconded by PJ Striker and carried 6–0.
The board also noted that meeting materials would be made available on the district website despite the lack of a live recording or Zoom access. Members said the curtailment created practical constraints (loss of lighting and recording) that made it difficult to complete the full agenda that evening.
