Ad hoc safety and security committee reports on Sandy Hook Promise, vape detectors and training

Director Holmes, reporting for the ad hoc safety and security committee, told the board the group met with the superintendent on Aug. 15 and later included a community member and Director Powell in the discussion. Committee priorities included Sandy Hook Promise programming, wraparound services, the student handbook process, an outstanding memo about vape detectors and security assistants, staffing levels for security EAs (reported at 19), and de-escalation training. The committee plans to provide additional information ahead of an October district safety meeting.
Director Holmes said the committee will meet again Sept. 25 and will post an agenda in accordance with procedure. The board welcomed the update and requested additional focus on October planning and follow-up reporting from the committee.
