Board members spent part of the July 27 meeting prioritizing topics for an upcoming retreat and deciding which items should be handled in work sessions.
President Don Waitalla asked directors to rank their top five topics for retreat time; members suggested meeting norms, student achievement, school safety and messaging, superintendent and board operating principles, and strategic-plan phase priorities. Director Debbie said student achievement should remain prominent, while others recommended some issues (AI in schools, strategic-plan details) be handled in workshops for more in-depth discussion.
Directors also discussed logistics for the retreat and how to use work sessions to avoid overloading a single multi-hour session. The chair clarified the retreat is open to the public but will not include an opportunity for public comment.
