Acting Superintendent Beth explained the revision is intended to bring policy into alignment with the strategic-plan language and emphasized the district will implement the plan across schools and departments. "This is the mission statement, pulled directly from the board-approved strategic plan," Beth said during the presentation.
During public comment, Jerry Portman urged the board to adopt the committee's work, calling the vision and mission the product of teachers, staff, community members and students; at the same time, Sean Gerben urged caution and asked that measurable standards for student protection and investigation be in place before adopting new statements.
After discussion, a motion to adopt the mission statement on first reading carried. The board directed the superintendent's office to post updated policy language and begin implementation steps tied to the strategic plan.
