Acting Superintendent Beth told the board the vision statement incorporated feedback from more than 2,500 participants, including students, staff, and community members. "The new strategic plan included voices of over 2,500 participants," Beth said, explaining the policy update reflects that collaborative process.
Board members debated whether to treat the item as a first reading or wait for a second reading. Director Albert voted no, saying he preferred preserving the option of a second reading to allow additional consideration. The motion to approve on first reading carried after recorded votes.
Several public commenters tied the policy conversation to broader demands for accountability, asking the board to ensure policies on investigations and records retention are enforced before adopting new vision language. The board moved next to consider the mission policy update.
