County, city outline sheltering and staging as tens of thousands evacuate

Spokane County Commissioner Chris Jordan said the county declared an emergency to speed operations and that the county fairgrounds are being prepared as a staging area for first responders and as a place for livestock, pets and RV campers if needed. "So we will be ready to offer the county fairgrounds if needed," he said, and urged residents to follow official evacuation maps and the county emergency page.
Jordan told residents that county veteran services can assist veterans with benefits and access to care and provided a contact number: "The phone number, is (509) 477-3690." Mayor Brown confirmed the convention center shelter was active and calm, that additional secondary sites are being prepared, and that the city's shelter system is on full activation with a navigation center operating 24/7 for foreseeable needs.
Officials stressed using official channels for donations and assistance, noting the Innovia Foundation had started a Spokane complex wildfire response fund and the city's Home Starts Here fund was accepting wildfire recovery donations through the city website.
