Board hears Powell Butte preschool report highlighting 83% attendance and stronger kindergarten readiness

The Centennial School District 28J board heard a detailed presentation from Powell Butte Elementary Principal Jared Austin and Assistant Principal Dianne Reyes on the school’s preschool program.
Austin said the program aligns with Roadmap 27 Goal #1 and reported preschool attendance at 83%, the highest rate at the school. The presenters said the full-day program includes literacy, math, art, science and social-emotional learning and that roughly two out of three incoming kindergarten students are arriving better prepared after participating in the preschool.
Board members praised the program’s intentional design and asked about enrollment numbers, waitlists, student transitions to neighborhood schools, transportation logistics and opportunities for field trips. Early Learning Administrator Kendra Hughes and classroom staff were recognized for the program’s work during the report.
