The district’s finance director outlined fiscal pressures at the Sept. 8 board meeting, saying Cascade’s enrollment is roughly 2,814 students and the district employs about 355 staff. He presented a five‑year monthly ending‑cash chart and said increases in PERS and benefit costs are stressing the operating budget; he committed to issuing a December ending‑balance projection once four payrolls are posted.
The director noted the district paid under $80,000 for PACE insurance five years ago and said the current PACE bill is substantially higher; the board reacted with audible surprise. He also reminded trustees that PERS increases that took effect July 1 add roughly $2,000,000 of recurring cost pressure. "We're watching this very carefully," he said, and staff will provide updated projections in December.
