The board updated the public on efforts to find placements for children displaced from the local Head Start program. Officials said Pinegrove School will add pre-K sessions that will accommodate a significant number of the displaced children and that discussions continue with Ellenville Nursery School and Ulster County Community Action as potential operators.
"The school is going to be adding an additional pre-K sessions, which is going to absorb a number of the head start phase," the board said during the meeting, describing recent productive meetings and facility walkthroughs. Staff said they expect more substantive updates in the coming week as partners complete facility evaluations and finalize transportation arrangements for families who can access nearby centers.
Board members asked staff to continue outreach to agencies and to report back with specific timelines and needs for staffing and space before the next meeting.
