Osseo board hears how curriculum rollout aligns with Minnesota READ Act requirements

District presenters told the board that Minnesota’s Reading to Ensure Academic Development (READ) Act and recent legislative updates factor into the curriculum rollout and training schedule. Jill Kind said the law requires specific screenings and professional learning and that FastBridge is one approved tool for the mandated screenings.
Kind explained that an update to the timeline (referred to in the presentation as REACT 2.0/READ Act updates) extended the period for teachers to complete required professional learning, which the district said allows it to phase training across two years. She noted that screening results must be submitted annually via the local literacy plan and that the state updated the local plan template this summer.
District staff said they will post the local literacy plan, screening schedule and related templates on the district website and organize training so teachers complete required modules in a feasible timeline.
