Teachers in pilot overwhelmingly favored 95 Phonics Core, district says

District staff told the board that teachers piloted multiple literacy resources across consecutive nine‑week rotations and reached a strong consensus for 95 Phonics Core. Jill Kind, the director of learning and achievement, said the pilot involved 45 teachers who each evaluated CKLA, 95 Phonics Core and Wit & Wisdom.
“96% of teachers, agreed with 95 phonics core off the bat because they saw the results in the short time that they used it,” Kind said. The administration described the pilot as completed in an 18‑week cycle where teachers tested each product and then convened to share results.
Superintendent Kim Heil and other staff emphasized that early results were a key reason for selecting 95 Phonics Core; the district will continue to support classrooms with targeted professional learning and coaching to sustain the gains seen in short pilots.
