The Osseo Public School District announced that it will implement a new elementary reading curriculum, adopting 95 Phonics Core for foundational skills and CKLA for language comprehension across K–5. Jill Kind, the district’s director of learning and achievement, told the board the change follows multi‑year pilots and work to align curriculum to the science of reading.
“This is the start of a new unit,” Kind said while introducing classroom video of the work; earlier she described structured literacy as “grounded in the science of reading research.” The district said teachers piloted several resources and reached consensus after 18 weeks of testing and evaluation.
District leaders said the adoption is coupled with a systemwide professional‑learning plan so teachers can implement the materials with fidelity. The administration emphasized that CKLA will be used to build background knowledge and vocabulary through read‑alouds, discussions and domain assessments, while 95 Phonics Core provides daily foundational instruction.
School officials also noted the state evaluation rubric used to approve curriculum. The district described its resources as “partially aligned” to the state rubric and said teams will develop materials to fill gaps identified by the Center for Applied Research and Education.
