Board discusses policy committee drafts; first read of Policy BK on board evaluation

Chair Pam Shields asked facilitators to report on recent policy committee work. Later in the meeting Director Michael Newman presented a first reading of Policy BK (Evaluation of Board Operational Procedures). Newman said the committee recommends a shorter, simplified draft based on OSBA sample policy, starting with a board self-evaluation and eventually expanding to include Cabinet, schools and a periodic 360-degree evaluation with community input, potentially using an outside facilitator. Board members raised questions about intended purposes, cost, workload and clearer timelines; the committee will meet again to refine the policy language before a subsequent reading.
