Trustee proposes exploring a non-voting student board member

A trustee raised the idea of adding a non-voting student board member to increase student engagement. The trustee said he had "run across recently, some interesting, reading about some districts who are having a student school board member" and suggested the position could be a one-year term elected by the student body or selected by the board, with eligibility criteria including academic standing and parent approval.

The superintendent noted that other Oregon districts sometimes use an application-and-selection process rather than a direct student-body election; the trustee volunteered to gather additional information and said he would bring options to administration for review. The board agreed to have staff gather details to inform a future discussion.
