Harnett HR reports vacancy declines, international-hire increase and planned bus-driver training

Human Resources director Miss Thompson told the board on Aug. 5 that vacancies are trending down across categories: classroom openings fell from 32 to 16 year-over-year and classified vacancies declined from 47 to 36. She credited the work of principals, directors and HR staff, and noted the district has onboarded over 67 international teachers so far this season.
Thompson also described recruitment efforts including a July 15 job fair that drew 127 potential applicants and a planned 50-person bus-driver class beginning in early September. She said beginning teachers and international hires received training on board policies during orientation, and that safe-school training and required online modules were being deployed before the school year. "Our hiring numbers are looking up for the 1st time in a long time," she said.
