City reports brownfields, asbestos and lead findings; air monitoring required at two sites

City administration reported that brownfields environmental assessments are in progress on several city-owned sites and that hazardous materials were identified at some properties. "Asbestos abatement will be required for the old City Hall Building, the water treatment center, and the Rosewood Center for any renovations and more demolition activities can begin," Mayor Wagner reported, and added that third-party air monitoring will be required at two sites during abatement.
Staff said Phase 1 assessments have been completed for specific parcels and that EPA approvals or clearances are being sought before demolition or major renovations begin. Council thanked staff and volunteers for their work identifying issues and asked for follow-up documentation and projected timelines for remediation and any associated costs.
