The Harnett County School Board approved a package of pay adjustments and a one-time recruitment/retention bonus on Aug. 5 after finance staff outlined available local and federal funds. Finance said the proposed $1,250 one-time bonus for permanent staff (employed as of Aug. 15, 2024) would be paid in a special run on Sept. 6 and cost roughly $3.2 million, noting the district plans to use ESSER funds for that payment.
Board members also approved a classified salary scale that implements approximately a 4% step increase for FY25 (1% above the state-provided 3%), a director scale adjustment built into the same funding package, and teacher and school-based administrator supplements targeted by years of experience (examples presented include teacher supplements increasing from $3,100 to $3,300 for 0–2 years and to $4,500 for 26+ years). Coaching supplements were increased roughly 10% across the board. Finance staff attributed the local portion of increases to about $2.5 million from county commissioners and said the incremental 1% on the classified scale cost about $850,000.
