Early Colleges report doubles applications, outlines recruitment and counseling plan

Jasmine Nixon presented the Early Colleges' results and a recruitment plan at the board meeting, saying the program doubled applications after targeted outreach and improved communications.
"Our school performance score moved from 78 to 89," Nixon said, noting the shift changed the school's report-card grade and that applications rose from 66 to 120 for the incoming freshman cohort. Nixon described returning to in-person interviews, scheduling middle-school visits and offering both virtual and in-person open houses to sustain interest.
Nixon also highlighted student-support measures: the Early Colleges have a full-time counselor at the Benhaven campus and a part-time counselor at the Dunn location, weekly grade reports from the college liaison, and a plan to reach students performing below a 70% threshold because college credit depends on that minimum.
The board received the update for information; staff said the Early Colleges will continue recruitment and report outcomes to the board after the application cycle closes in February.
