Superintendent Aaron Miller reported that the district received $50,000 from the Department of Forestry to begin an Orchard Project and that contractors and supplies are being lined up to start work.
Miller also said intercom buttons have been installed at both school entrances to complete a round of security upgrades. IT Director Rusty Raymond reported he is working to resolve bugs in the new security system. Raymond also outlined plans for a "Connected Seniors" program that would pair students with senior participants to teach basic computer and social-media skills; the district has ordered additional Chromebooks for the Family Academy to support that program.
The grant and the security updates were described as part of ongoing capital and safety work; Miller said the district is working with the county on a parcel of vacant land across from Pacific High School that could relate to future projects.
