Board honors students for 'Responsibility'; OMS, OHS report activities

Administrators and teachers recognized multiple students for the November trait 'Responsibility' and students from Ontario Middle and High Schools reported on activities including a food drive and Spirit Week.
The board recognized a slate of students across district schools for November's character trait, Responsibility. Ken Martinez, principal at Ontario High School, honored Mercedes Cuevas-Cuna, saying, “Mercedes consistently demonstrates a strong sense of responsibility and initiative. Even in advisory, she is often the first to volunteer and take on tasks when others are hesitant.” Several teachers and principals offered similar nominations and examples from classrooms and extracurriculars.
Students also reported school activities. Ontario Middle School student Aylin Ayala told the board that Latinos in Action students are providing arts and crafts for children and collecting donations for the district food pantry. ASB Secretary Peyton Erlebach reported that OHS is collecting cans for Help to Them to Hope and described recent class activities including pumpkin painting and a door-decorating contest.
