Students across district honored for safety and leadership as schools report strong extracurriculars

Students and school leaders used the Oct. 27 board meeting to highlight school activities and honor individual students for safety and leadership.
Ontario High School student Dana Hernandez reported that homecoming week concluded with grade-level fundraisers and that FFA, boys' soccer and color guard had active seasons. Ontario Middle School student Aylin Ayala said Latinos in Action and middle-school sports had strong participation. Several principals and teachers presented Student of the Month and Safety Awards: OHS associate principal Jeremy Bergquist honored Jazleen Ramirez Hernandez; OHS teacher Mr. Sebasto recognized Devin Davenport for shop safety; OMS Principal Lisa Longoria honored Heylin Perez Abreu, Jenifer Fuentes Matamoros and Leopoldo Mendoza; Alameda Intermediate Principal Andrea Buchholz recognized Haddie Mejia and Freddy Alvia Ramirez; Aiken Associate Principal Marci Haro honored Nico Tamez; and May Roberts Principal Kevin Capps recognized Brizia Gomez Valadez. Director of Federal Programs Anabel Ortiz-Chavolla provided Spanish translations for multiple remarks.
Speakers emphasized student safety, peer leadership and bilingual supports. The recognitions aimed to showcase positive behavior and community-building across the district.
