Seaside Middle School student council honored; board recognizes student leaders

The Seaside School District board recognized Seaside Middle School’s student council for a statewide leadership award and heard brief remarks and introductions from teacher Shelby Gagnon and four student leaders.
The Seaside School District 10 board on May 20 recognized Seaside Middle School’s student council after the Oregon Association of Student Councils named the program a high-achieving leadership program.
"I teach student leadership at Seaside Middle School, and these are 4 of our student leaders," Shelby Gagnon told the board as she introduced the four students and read the OAC announcement. Gagnon said the award recognizes programs that "create and encourage activities that promote inclusivity among all students" and that Seaside was one of 21 high schools and five middle schools in the state to receive the honor.
The student leaders—introduced by Gagnon and the board—received congratulations from trustees and members of the audience. The board chair said he looked forward to seeing the students continue to lead at district events and thanked them for representing their schools.
The recognition was presented during the board’s reports section; the district did not take any formal action tied to the award beyond the acknowledgment on the record.
