Superintendent: school year off and running; cell-phone policy and UMCHS property update noted

Superintendent Matt Combe opened his report by telling trustees "The 2025-26 school year is off and running." He said he has conducted building walkthroughs and has enjoyed seeing students and staff back in classrooms.
Combe reminded the board that a sample cell-phone ban/executive-order policy had been included in the packet for a first reading and asked trustees to compare it with current policy and associated administrative regulations prior to a second reading and possible recommendation for adoption at the next meeting. On facilities, he said he and Gabe were awaiting a response from UMCHS on the district's latest proposal for property next to RJSH and that Dan Daltoso was presenting the proposal to UMCHS's finance committee.
Combe also highlighted extracurricular participation, saying fall sports and activities had good participation numbers, and described the district's engagement with the OSAA S.T.A.R. Initiative (Safety, Tolerance, Acceptance and Respect) aimed at improving sports and activities environments; he encouraged trustees to note the initiative's outreach, signage and preseason meeting requirements.
