Board OKs one-year contract for high-dosage tutoring to use new grant funds

The district board approved a contract with HeyTutor on Feb. 19 to provide high-dosage tutoring funded by a recently accepted grant.
Allie Ivey, TLA director, presented the contract and explained the tutoring would be available after school in small groups; she said the contract would run only through the end of the current school year to use remaining grant funds and that "the tutoring would supplement instruction rather than replace core class time and would typically occur in small groups." Board members discussed adding clear reporting and parent communication and explored whether to use Education Support Professionals (ESPs) instead of an outside vendor.
Director Kelley moved approval; Director Polehn seconded. The motion passed unanimously. If funds remain after the initial service weeks, the board said remaining grant money would be directed toward additional after-school tutoring sites.
