Strategic Plan 3.0: district to survey parents and streamline communication platforms
Summary
As part of Strategic Plan 3.0 priority on a "culture of listening," staff reported results of a 349-response staff survey on parent communication tools and recommended a parent survey next; the goal is to reduce the number of platforms and align with Senate Bill 571 guidance on district-approved messaging tools.

District staff outlined Priority 3 of Strategic Plan 3.0, emphasizing a "culture of listening" and a specific objective (3.1.4) to explore two-way communication tools that better connect parents and schools.
"There were 349 surveys that came back to us in total," Ms. Zarkas said, summarizing staff feedback on platform use and noting that the district currently uses 30 to 31 different communication platforms across functions. She said a parent survey will be distributed to document what families use, how many apps they rely on and how well those tools serve two-way communication needs.
Zarkas said staff will follow guidance tied to Senate Bill 571 by ensuring district employees and service providers communicate with students only through district-approved messaging platforms; the district plans staff training, parent information and an implementation phase intended to streamline purchases while preserving functionality.
Board members thanked staff for the update and said they value two-way parent communication and careful, financially responsible rollout of any consolidation.
