Board moves AI policy forward; district plans teacher training and 'scale of AI use'

The board reviewed Policy IKJ (Artificial Intelligence) and chose not to alter the policy language at this time. Jeff Gibbs, who has been coordinating AI work, reported that a steering group is developing guidance and a "scale of AI use" to help teachers determine acceptable uses (for example: research and outlines versus assignments where AI is disallowed). He noted pockets of teacher practice already exist and that the district intends to broaden professional development next school year.
District plans also include adding AI-disclosure language to registration materials and syllabi, compiling an approved list of contained tools to protect student privacy, and applying an "AI lens" to other district policies over time. The board moved the policy forward to the consent agenda.
