During administrative reports, a staff member described uses for a family health and fitness grant that will fund K–5 swim lessons and related field-trip activities. "That 1st week of June, we've contacted the Boardman Rec Center, and we're gonna do 2 days of swim lesson safety with all of our kids at the elementary school K–5," the staff member said, adding that the grant will pay for lessons and other costs during the outings.
The staff member explained logistics for rotating grade cohorts across days (K–1 on two days; grades 3–5 across two days) and said the Sage Center will allow storage of shade tents and coolers. Board members asked about volunteer and lifeguard support; the staff member noted they are coordinating with certified lifeguards and local partners so the district can provide safe lessons for students with higher needs.
